ABOUT THE SCHEME

ELMBRIDGE TO BRICKHAMPTON COURT GOLF COURSE

Elmbridge Court Roundabout to M5 Overbridge Staverton,
will consist of a two-way cycle track on the northern side of the B4063 carriageway made up of:

• A segregated cycle track and footway in locations with a higher density of pedestrians (through Churchdown).

• A ‘shared use path’ for both cyclists and pedestrians in rural sections with fewer pedestrian movements.
(i.e. a cycle track people can walk on, not a footway people can cycle on).

These works will see further progress in the delivery of the B4063 Gloucester to Cheltenham cycle improvements scheme, creating a high-quality and safe route between the centre of Gloucester and the centre of Cheltenham and linking to the recently completed West Cheltenham Walking and Cycling Improvement works at Arle Court Roundabout and along the A40 and works underway between the M5 Overbridge Staverton and Arle Court
Roundabout.

This section of works will link the Brickhampton golf course to the M5 overbridge works currently being constructed by Montel Civil Engineering. The works began in late 2022 and are expected to last until spring 2024.

AIMS OF THE PROJECT

The B4063 Cycleway will run between Gloucester and Cheltenham. A continuous cycleway along this route will:
• Help cyclists of all ages and abilities to travel safely.

• Improve health and well-being in the community while reducing Gloucestershire’s carbon emissions.

• Give a continuous route for cyclists and make cycling and sustainable travel more appealing, helping to get people out of their cars, cutting congestion in the area.

• Improve bus times - if there’s less traffic around, buses are more likely to be on time.

• Connect other cycle routes together, like London Road in Gloucester and the A40 in Cheltenham.

• Help people to reboot their commute by linking residents, schools and businesses in Churchdown, Innsworth and Staverton to public transport hubs in both Gloucester and Cheltenham.

• Assist the local recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
